Club Nintendo to Close Down Shop Mid 2015

Club Nintendo Logo

You know, I’m a huge fan of loyalty rewards.  Buy our stuff, get discounts or free stuff.  It’s a great way to keep customers coming back while showing your appreciation to them.  This is why I love Club Nintendo.  Club Nintendo would offer you coins to register Nintendo products and to take a few surveys about games you purchased.  Redeem those coins for downloadable games or cool Nintendo stuff.  But now, Club Nintendo will be no more.

Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that Club Nintendo will be no more.  Existing members will be able to continue to earn coins until the end of March and will have until the end of June to redeem those coins.  After that, Club Nintendo closes shop.  But fear not, friends!  There will be a new loyalty rewards program from Nintendo!  The details of the new loyalty program have yet to be revealed, but Nintendo is already looking forward to a smooth transition.  Here is the official statement from Scott Moffitt, Executive VP of Sales & Marketing at Nintendo regarding the change:

“We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters… We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

So if you are part of Club Nintendo and have coins that you haven’t redeemed, the next couple of months will be interesting.  Nintendo will be adding a number of goods that you can redeem your coins for.  That includes stuff that can be mailed to you and games that you can download to your Wii, 3DS, and Wii U.

It looks like Nintendo doesn’t want those hard earned coins going to waste and will flood the rewards store with something for everyone.  And just because Nintendo is awesome, they will be giving away Flipnote Studio 3D for the 3DS to all Club Nintendo members.  You can download the software for free starting Feb. 1st and will be available for free until June 30th.

Nintendo Rewards Store

I’ve been hoarding coins hoping to score a few games.  Looks like the hoarding needs to stop and time to start getting some rewards.  The only problem now is whether to cash them in right away or wait for the slew of goodies that Nintendo intends to fill the rewards store with.  Decisions… decisions…  Oooooo!!!  The Legend of Zelda!  Oooooo…  Super Metroid!  Ooooo!!!! EXCITEBIKE!!!! Looks like finding stuff to spend my coins isn’t going to be a problem after all.  lol  Later!

Nintendo 3ds

Did you guys catch this morning’s Nintendo Direct video???  There was a lot of announced stuff this morning, including a new set of Amiibo figures being released, Wii games now available for download on the Wii U, and new DLC Majora’s Mask content for Hyrule Warriors!  But the biggest announcement has to be the new Nintendo 3DS XL!  The new Nintendo 3DS XL will have faster processing speeds, more control options, and will enhance gameplay on certain games by adding amiibo functionality!  Aside from the standard blue and red colors, Nintendo also announced a Majora’s Masked themed 3DS and a Monster Hunter 4 themed 3DS.

Majoras Mask 3dmaskxl

AHHHHHHH!!!  Look at it!  Soooooo shiny!!!!  Soooooo beautiful!!!!!!  If you are at a loss at what to get your honey for Valentine’s Day, you may want to grab this!  The only negative thing about the Majora’s Mask 3DS is that is DOES NOT come with the game.  But the Monster Hunter themed 3DS does and the price point is a little higher because of it.  The stand alone New Nintendo 3DS XL (including the Majora’s Mask one) will run for $199.99 and the Monster Hunter 3DS XL will go for $229.99.  The Major’s Mask and Monster Hunter 3DS XL will be Gamestop exclusives so you will have to get yours there.

You can catch this, and all other Nintendo Direct announcements, here.

So what do you think of this morning’s announcement?  Nintendo is starting off 2015 strong, do you think they’ll finally get some traction for the Wii U to compete with the Xbox One and the PS4?  Let’s hear it in the comments, friends!

Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Limited Edition Bundle with Skull Kid Figurine

The Legend of Zelda series has been adored by fans from the start.  Since 1986, Zelda fans have guided Link through many dungeons, collected countless items, defeated several incarnations of Ganon, and saved Princess Zelda from peril time and time again… and guess what… we fans would do it all again!  Because of this, it comes to no surprise that long time Zelda fans yearn for remakes/continuations of the classics.

In 2011, Nintendo released a remake of the revolutionary Ocarina of Time.  Last year, Nintendo released, A Link Between Worlds, the sequel to the much loved A Link to the Past, and now… we are getting a 3D remake of one of the darkest games of the series, Majora’s Mask.  Nintendo announced that Majora’s Mask will get the 3D treatment and will be released for the Nintendo 3DS last fall but fans of collectibles and memorabilia are in for a treat.  Nintendo has just announced that a limited edition bundle for Majora’s Mask will be available that will include a Skull Kid figurine.  Now that is freakin’ awesome!!!

Nintendo Game Item

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D bundle will be sold at select retailers for $49.99.  There is little known about the size of the figurine, but by looking at some of the pictures of it, looks to be about 6 inches tall.  The design is spot on and captures the enigmatic, dark, and twisted characteristics that is Skull Kid.  The Skull Kid is a central character in Majora’s Mask and this figurine is a must have for any Zelda fan!

An exact date for release has yet to be confirmed but Nintendo has stated that the limited edition bundle will be made available some time this spring.  This is going to be a hot item so I strongly suggest you pre-order your limited edition bundle now before they are gone.
